Yes, my friends. We bring you another one of those strange days that celebrate some sex-related custom, habit or hobby. Today it’s Naked Work Day’s time to shine. Can you imagine an office full of people wearing their birthday suits? The human resources, the administrative assistant, the sales manager? Well, you can stop imagining it because, fortunately, this day has nothing to do with that.
Who came out with this idea?
Nor is it like those other days created by some idle Twitter user. This time, its creator has a name, a surname and a good cause. Her name is Lisa Karanek and this is her story.
Twenty years ago, Lisa left her job at a multinational company, dissatisfied with all the hours she had to devote to making other people rich, and embarked on a project that seemed daring at the time: working from home.
We know how prevalent this has become since the pandemic, but at the time it was so unheard of that for the first five years she hid it from her other colleagues in the industry for fear that they wouldn’t take her seriously.
Until one day in 2010, she said enough is enough! No more hiding to enjoy a lifestyle that was not detrimental to her performance or professionalism. On the contrary: she set out to make sure that more people would also benefit from such a positive change. And what better way to celebrate it than with a gesture that symbolized this newfound freedom? It could have been working by the pool, drinking beers, or petting guinea pigs, but she opted for something more practical: doing it naked.
National Working Naked Day is celebrated on the first Friday of February, which leads us to think that Lisa must live in Florida or be a thermal insulation saleswoman because the only flaw we can find in her plan is the date on which it is celebrated. We also work from home and we assure you that the last thing we want to do on this date is to take off our clothes. But don’t despair, spring is near!
